Common questions

Frequently AskedQuestions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from construction businesses.

What is a fractional or part-time Quantity Surveyor?

+
A fractional or part-time QS gives you access to senior Quantity Surveyor expertise without hiring someone full-time. You pay for the days or hours you actually need — typically one to three days per week — while getting the same strategic input and commercial oversight a full-time QS would provide.

How is QS Team different from a standard QS consultant?

+
Standard QS consultants typically work on a project-by-project basis, focused on a specific scope. QS Team embeds at a senior level within your business — working across your whole portfolio, managing your QS function, improving commercial controls and providing the strategic cost leadership you would expect from an in-house QS Director.

What size of business do you work with?

+
We work with businesses of varying sizes — from growing sub-contractors looking to put proper cost controls in place, through to larger main contractors and developers who need experienced senior QS support for complex programmes.

What contract types do you work with?

+
We are experienced across JCT, NEC3 and NEC4 contract suites as well as bespoke sub-contract arrangements. We can manage valuations, variations, extensions of time, claims and final accounts across all standard forms of construction contract.

Can you help if a project is already over budget or in dispute?

+
Yes. Commercial recovery and dispute resolution are core parts of what we do. We have extensive experience stepping into difficult situations, quickly assessing the cost position, stabilising the commercial exposure and working with all parties to reach a structured resolution.

What does the initial call involve?

+
The initial call is completely free and without obligation. We’ll spend up to an hour understanding your business, the challenges you’re facing and what you’re trying to achieve. At the end of the call we’ll give you an honest view on how we can help — and if we’re not the right fit, we’ll say so.

Do you work on-site or remotely?

+
Both. We can work remotely, from your offices, or on-site depending on what makes most sense for your business. Many clients find a blend works best — regular remote check-ins with periodic on-site days for deeper engagement with the project team.

Can you provide lender monitoring or independent cost reports?

+
Yes. We provide independent cost monitoring and lender reporting services — assessing cost position, forecast accuracy, project performance and commercial risk. We provide clear, objective reports to give funders and investors the confidence they need.
